As we close 2016, we decided to take a moment to appreciate the positive experiences this year has offered us. As three professional women, with families, we balance work, busy schedules, and taking time to go out and experience all that the Outlander fandom has to offer. We have loved our time going to Outlander events, as there is no better way to get through Droughtlander than being with others who have your same addiction. Sharing our adventures in all things Outlander was our motivation to start this blog. We have enjoyed having a place to talk about our love for the books, author, show, cast, and crew. As we begin the festivities to celebrate the new year, we wanted to take time to reflect on our favorite memories of 2016. Come take a look at some of our favorite moments!
It is amazing to think that our blog only began 6 months ago! We are blessed to have our family support us in this new adventure. We all had dreams of becoming aspiring writers, sharing our passion for the Outlander book and television series. We are proud of what we have accomplished so far and cannot wait to see what journeys we will embark on in 2017!
We were thrilled to attend Theresa Carle-Sanders’ Outlander Kitchen cookbook release event and book signing held in June in Scottsdale, AZ. The event was hosted by The Poisoned Pen Bookstore with Outlander series author, Diana Gabaldon, in attendance. We were fortunate to attend and make the 6-hour road trip adventure out of it for a weekend! We had an incredible time. You can see our adventure by clicking here. Our love for this cookbook has also inspired many recipes to be made within our homes, by ourselves and even our children. You can see many of our experiences in our Tested Outlander Kitchen Cookbook Recipes category in our blog.
We heard the call of the Outlander Costumes. When Terry Dresbach’s Outlander costumes became available for viewing at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, once again and without hesitation, we dropped everything and answered that call. We had a fabulous adventure! Seeing the costumes in close proximity was a dream come true! You can see our adventure here.
The return home to Seattle this year was extra special for Jae, as it coordinated perfectly with a local event to meet Theresa Carle-Sanders, the author of the Outlander Kitchen. During the gathering, two recipe tastings from her cookbook were shared. The event was small and intimate, allowing the opportunity to hear Theresa Carle-Sanders’ story of developing her book, meeting and working with Diana Gabaldon, and hints to her future aspirations. Wonderful memories never to be forgotten! You can see Jae’s adventure here.
Sass3 headed north to Los Angeles to visit FIDM, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, to view the Emmy Nominated Outlander Costumes. For this road trip to FIDM, we were particularly interested in seeing Claire Fraser’s “Dior” dress! It’s beauty was fully appreciated by Sass3. We were so thankful to see additional costumes that were not at the Artistry of Outlander Exhibit at the Paley Center. Seeing these astonishing creations definitely was a highlight for us in 2016! You can see our visit by clicking here.
My Peak Challenge is near and dear to our hearts. We have experienced hikes and trails that we have previously not seen or ventured. Changing our lifestyles for the better has been a definite testament to Sam Heughan’s MPC program. You can see all the peaks we have bagged here.
Whether you have San Diego Comic Con passes or not, going downtown during this event is quite an adventure! We were able to see one of a kind exhibits outside the Convention Center and hear about the Terry Dresbach and Bear McCreary panels through interviews with fellow fans. In fact, we even met Bear McCreary and Raya Yarborough! You can see our adventure by clicking here.
We are fortunate enough that we can hop in our car and drive to Los Angeles for Outlander fan-centered events. For this journey we were headed to The Other Venice Film Festival. There we had the opportunity to see Adam Sigal‘s independent film, When The Starlight Ends (WTSE), starring Arabella Oz and our beloved Sam Heughan. We loved it! Mela met Dr. Oz and Lady K had the opportunity to get Arabella Oz’s first official autograph! You can revisit our adventure here.
It is always a highlight to go to book release events. The release of The Making of Outlander has been long-awaited, so we were ecstatic that we had opportunities to go to both events. We loved the insight all panelists had to share. This was one of our favorite adventures! The Scottsdale signing was highlighted here.
Lady K and Mela also attended the Making of Outlander book signing event in Pasadena. We can never hear enough from this fantastic panel composed of Ronald D Moore, Toni Graphia, Anne Kenney, and author of the Making of Outlander, Tara Bennett. We had a lovely time! The blog highlighting this adventure is coming soon.
How blessed are we to be in the company of such a positive group of people. Outlander SoCal Edition planned an epic celebration! Our Sass3nach journey led us on a weekend adventure to celebrate the third anniversary of the Outlander SoCal Edition group. There was live entertainment at the gathering and incredible raffle prizes. We love every moment we get to be with this inspiring group of fans. We truly believe Outlander fans are the best! Take a look at this epic celebration by pressing here.
In conclusion, our blog is filled with our adventures, experiences, and expressions for our wee addiction to all things Outlander. We are fans who love to share our experiences going to different fan events. As you celebrate and welcome in the New Year, we wish you joy and happiness in 2017! Slainte mhath! ♥
