Temptation not only for him, but for me. For him, the chance to be what he was made for by nature, what fate had denied him. He was born and bred to this: the stewardship of a large estate, the care of the people on it, a place of respect among men of substance, his peers. More importantly, the restoration of clan and family.
Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 13
Jamie Fraser is one of the greatest literary characters. Diana Gabaldon has seamlessly created and developed him to be complete with a high sense of integrity, honor, ingenuity, and leadership that sets him apart from all the other characters. Yet, he also shares the same hopes, fears and even mannerisms that can be subjectively related to each and every one of us. This ability to present the character of Jamie Fraser with depth and human appeal is what allows us to clearly identify and feel as though there is a real personal connection to him. For all of us, it feels like this bond has grown stronger with each book in the series and also from watching the award nominating performances of Sam Heughan, who portrays Jamie Fraser.
In this blog we wanted to send our sincere appreciation for all that Sam Heughan does on and behind the Outlander series. From charitable endeavors to supporting social change, he has put his stardom to great use. In addition, his portrayal of Jamie Frasier continues to capture his audience and take command of the screen. To avid fans there is simply nothing better. We know his relentless work ethic will lead him on a path of continued success and no one deserves it more. Continue reading Sass3nach’s Appreciation for Sam Heughan’s Portrayal of Jamie Fraser→
Keeping fit is a goal so many of us have. When you combine Sam Heughan’s My Peak Challenge (MPC) with The Peak Posse SoCal friends, it is just down-right delightful – not to mention fun!
Some members of The Peak Posse SoCal (a division of The Peak Posse which is world-wide) gathered together for a 5K and brunch event in Southern California. Of course, Sass3 joined in on the opportunity to participate.
When it comes to traveling to an Outlander event, distance doesn’t deter us from getting there. Many fans make long voyages that may take hours or even days to arrive to their destination. Whether you are a savvy jet setter or a budget conscious consumer, this blog may be for you. Today, I will share some of my travel finds, reviews, and insights. I will also present some secrets I have learned to find great air fares, accommodations, and rentals.
April 6 is the official U.S. date of National Tartan Day – a day to celebrate the Scottish Declaration of Independence and the achievements of those of Scottish descent. House of Scotland in San Diego’s Balboa Park hosted their annual Tartan Day celebration on Saturday, April 1. A group of Outlander San Diego Edition lassies met up to enjoy the day.
We were looking forward to not only each other’s company, but the sound of bagpipes, the taste of Scottish vittles, and, of course, men in kilts!
April 16. There are so many meanings associated with this important date. Foremost, it is on this date in 1746 – on the battlefield of Culloden Moor – valiant Highlanders faced their final confrontation of the Jacobite Rising of 1745. Those who have visited this site have hinted to the strong feelings of emotions that arise – whispers of the indomitable men that fought so bravely upon this battleground – and all that was lost on this date in history. As we approach the 271st anniversary of the Battle of Culloden, we felt not only a desire to have a moment of reflection on the significant markings of this fateful day, we also wanted to honor the valor and bravery that will always be remembered.
In this blog, we will explore this moment of reflection, our own personal link to this date, and a recent trip to the Highlands that reinforced the beauty and magic of Scotland.
Life takes us in so many different directions. This blog marks the one year anniversary of when I first became acquainted with my local enthusiasts who love Outlander as much as I do. I find comfort in the knowledge that there are others as equally passionate as I am about the Outlander series. Each fan has their own story of how they found other like-minded individuals who have invested themselves into this amazing fandom. How did I find this group, one might ask? My simple answer – over coffee.
Whisky – the preferential drink of Claire in Outlander. It can warm the belly as well as soul. The quote below makes me think of the Outlander fandom reading Diana Gabaldon’s books.
“I know some who are constantly drunk on books as other men are drunk on whiskey.”
― H.L. Mencken
Many fans of the books enjoy having a dram of whisky as well as reading. Just as there are many books in the Outlander series, there are many types of whisky, one being Fireball Whisky, which is so versatile! Below is a simple and delicious concoction made with this tasty liquor.
Adult coloring books have been a recent trend these past few years. Luckily for us, there is an Outlander Coloring Book and, of course, we had to buy it! In our blog today, we will briefly share our time spent reviving this childhood recreation.
When one grows up, the time to sit and color seems to vanish. We get busy with work, home, family, and so many other things! The adult coloring books, available at Barnes & Noble or Poisoned Pen (signed), assist to remedy this disappearing pastime.
As Outlander fans, you can imagine the lengths we go through to keep ourselves busy until the next season, Voyager. Pastimes like rereading the series for the 5th time, listening to Bear McCreary’s Outlander CDs for the 10th time, and rewatching the series – oh, lets say the gazillionth time – is not new to any Outlander devotee! It’s a regular occurrence, to say the least. However, one of the most rewarding Outlander hobbies is assembling with other like-minded fans; this, we absolutely look forward to. We gather and can genuinelybe ourselves – not worrying about (as we do with our friends who haven’t found the glory of “Diana Gabaldon’s word”) whether or not we sound strange with our constant Outlandish talk. We are always right at home with our clan!Continue reading Voyager Themed Painting with Outlander Friends, The Perfect Droughtlander Activity!→
