Happy World Outlander Day!
Outlander is celebrating it’s twenty-sixth year on June 1st. ♥ The unique storytelling abilities of Diana Gabaldon are priceless. With a single stroke, she captures our imagination, creates an irreversible emotional connection, and opens the door to a new world that can not be singly defined. As we watch the books get skillfully adapted to the screen, there is no doubt that the attachment to this series will become inevitably stronger.
As we honor this special day, we were ecstatic to learn that AbbyShot is also acknowledging World Outlander Day with the commencement of pre-orders for their newest masterpiece: Jamie Fraser’s Leather Coat! With so many reasons to celebrate, today seemed like the perfect opportunity for us, Sass3, to sit down with each other to talk about our natural love for all things Outlander. After all, we still surprise ourselves at the plethora of times we drop everything – leaving our family, even our careers – just to experience Outlander! However, our love of attending events would not be complete without wearing the clothing and accessories that illustrate our appreciation for this dynamic series.
Join us as we spend time discussing our bond to Outlander, our appreciation for the original costume designs, and our new found attachment to AbbyShot‘s newest fan memorabilia – Jamie Fraser’s Leather Coat. ♥
Dawn Chandler illustrates the magic of being a performer. She is able to interpret and tell a story that invites an emotional connection to her viewers, allowing them to truly feel part of the narrative being told. From theatre to television, she has begun to place her artistic mark with each performance credit. Her dedication to her craft is also portrayed in her desire to continue expanding her levels of presentation by going beyond each roles initial expectations. To watch her authentically interpret each character she embodies is always enjoyable to witness. However, we also believe one of her biggest merits lies in her genuine personality that she displays outside of her work as an actress. Her heartfelt messages to fans and our ease of conversation during this interview made us realize how grounded and humble she truly is – and we would love nothing more than to be able to sit down and enjoy a drink with her one day. It is with great pleasure that Sass3 presents the talented Dawn Chandler. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to communicate with her after the completion of Season 2 finale of Outlander.

Finding time to gather with friends is always enjoyable, but when you add the ambiance of a true British tea house, it’s an absolute pleasure!
On a rainy Southern California morning, I had the opportunity to attend a themed tea tasting at Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe and Afternoon Tea, hosted by Outlander SoCal Edition members Rhena and Stephanie. Continue reading Outlandering at Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe and Afternoon Tea – A Review
One of the greatest things as an Outlander fan is the growing availability of memorabilia we can collect or give as gifts to our dearest friends. Searching for novel and unique items not only supports our natural addiction for the series, it also entertains us while the season is not in session. Have you ever wished you could travel back in time to experience what life was like in Paris during the 18th century? The lives of the people were vastly different, based upon their social status and degree of wealth. During this time period, Paris was the second-largest city in Europe, after London, while it was also most notably recognized as one of the founding points of high fashion and haute couture. This was a fashion-forward era that led to the creation of custom-fitted clothing that was exclusively handmade from start to finish. Each piece of clothing was created by using high quality fabrics with extreme precision in craftsmanship and attention to detail that reflected the wearer’s wealth and societal status.
Sass3 felt privileged to be able to explore this era of French fashion while attending a live lecture at The Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California. In this blog we will highlight the extraordinary teachings of Maxwell Barr as he discusses and demonstrates the art of fashion in the prosperous world of 18th Century France. With the help of a model, we were able to catch a glimpse into this world through live demonstrations of the daily wardrobe that was worn by the elite households of France. Each article of clothing was reflective of historical pieces found during this time period while also illustrating examples of original fabric, lace, and accessories from this era.
Come take a Timeless Journey with us as we experience the level of artistry and design that will not only delight the eyes, but also please the soul – as nothing can truly prepare you for the level of beauty and workmanship found in the attire we discovered while attending: An Artist at Work – French Fashion. ♥

Motherhood – Dictionary.com defines it as:
1. the state of being a mother; maternity.
2. the qualities or spirit of a mother.
3. mothers collectively.
4. having or relating to an inherent worthiness, justness, or goodness that is obvious or unarguable
In reality, it is so much more. One’s journey through this wonderful existence is the only way to fully understand it. When growing up I had a solid relationship with my mother. Of course, we had our ups and downs, but we had a strong bond. I aspire to live up to her caliber of motherhood.
This year, I have decided to honor her spirit by quoting moments of parenthood from my favorite book series. Diana Gabaldon, being a mother herself, has written the most eloquent sentiments through her characters in Outlander. Continue reading Motherhood: A Most Outlandish Journey of Life
“She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water. She belongs to no man and to no city. She knows nothing of borders and invents her own rules and customs. ‘Time’ for her isn’t something to fight against. Her life flows clean, with passion, like fresh water.”
― Roman Payne
When we read this quote, our minds immediately thought of Claire Fraser. Although a fictional character, she is brought to life by the level of emotional depth that rivals reality. It is rare to feel that level of connection. The ability to directly identify to the emotions experienced during moments of success or life’s trials is perhaps what cements the bond to the Outlander series. That is the true power of this series – the story becomes personal. We can relate to each character in some form and become emotionally vested. In our case, it led to re-reading the series again to recapture details that we may have missed and relive the joy of following this timeless story. Voyager will bring trials, adventures, and affirm relationships. A new beginning that can only take place with the introduction of new characters.
New casting only adds to our enthusiasm, making our anticipation for Season 3 even stronger! In this blog we will explore the newest roles being brought to life this season, our interpretation of their character descriptions based on the book series, and most of all, what we look forward to in the future. Perhaps, you may even be interested in the trivia at the end of the blog to test your own Outlander knowledge. ♥
Before reading on, please be aware: new characters are being discussed, so if you don’t want any chance of spoilers, heed with caution….

It’s every Outlander book fan’s dream to meet Herself, Diana Gabaldon; however, it’s paramount when you come face to face, let alone interact, with the stars who play your all-time favorite characters. One lucky lass to do just that is our fellow Outlander sister, Brenda, who experienced this at a VIP event at Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon. I met with Brenda for coffee as she contenly shared her adventure. I was more than happy to not only catch up with my friend, but also to hear about her epic journey. In today’s blog, we’ll hear about this Sassenach’s escapade meeting the infamous Jamie and Claire.

What he didn’t know was what had possessed Fraser to make the accusasion now, and in such a public manner. He got up, used the pot, then splashed water from the ewer over his face and, tilting the pitcher, drank most of the rest. It was nearly evening; his room was growing dark, and he could smell the luscious scents of tea pouring downstairs; fried sardines, fresh buttered crumpets, lemon sponge, cucumber sandwiches, sliced ham. He swallowed, suddenly ravenous.

The Scottish Prisoner by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 30
Lemon cake is a perfect addition to a spring or summer meal. It was my father’s favorite, and I always made a point to make it for him on his birthday or any special occasion. My mum and I found a simple, homemade recipe in her collection that is incredibly easy to bake. Once again, seizing the opportunity, my daughter took charge of the recipe to create a delicious dessert that is bound to be loved by everyone.
