What would life be like without good friends and family with whom to share it? They can lift us up, give us support throughout all of life’s offerings, and, most of all, they can give us the freedom to find our own adventure. Work and other responsibilities are an integral part of each of our daily routines. However, when a close friend calls you out of the blue to go on an epic road trip – to see Diana Gabaldon – while also offering a chance for spontaneity and adventure, what should you do? That’s right! Find a way to quickly organize, plan, and pack – knowing that you have the full support of your family in the process. Well, that is what happened to one of our Sass3 lassies. Given an opportunity to see Diana Gabaldon was an experience she could not miss. Whether meeting Diana Gabaldon for the first time, or in her case for the fourth time, the level of inspiration she offers to her readers is something that cannot be fully explained or even rationalized to those outside of this fandom. Filled with an adventurous spirit, an impetuous desire to meet the author she admires the most, and spending quality time with a dear friend who shares her same Outlander addiction, our lassie did what we all would most likely do – she set off for an unforgettable weekend trip to Arizona!
In this blog we will discuss her incredible journey, what we can share about the Q & A while attending The Poisoned Pen event supporting Diana Gabaldon’s newest short story MatchUp, and the joys of friendship that can make anyone feel 25 once again! Come and follow Jae’s journey as she drops everything to go and see Diana Gabaldon, whose literary work has offered her escape, solace, and the desire to follow in the footsteps of history.

There are many aspects of history surrounding the institution of slavery that have been forgotten, left to remain hidden in the past, until subtle clues reveal the truth and invite questioning. As these invisible pieces of history begin to come to light, our perceptions begin to be challenged – opening our eyes to the true reality that slavery can be traced beyond America. The short film 1745 exposes the truth that Scotland also shared in this deplorable past, confirmed by documented evidence that it had a direct link to the slave trade.
For many, this important piece of history was not readily known nor reflected in the general teachings of Scotland’s dynamic past. Research has exposed that significant civic and personal wealth were derived from their involvement in the slave trade. However, it is of tremendous importance to also address the morality of slavery, portrayal of power, and the symbolism for wealth that surrounded its existence which further contributed to the complexity of this hidden past. A search to find and acknowledge this social inequality led to the inspiration for the short film 1745. This film tells the story of two enslaved sisters who must gather immense courage, find strength within each other, and overcome unspeakable adversity to succeed in their pursuit of freedom during Scotland’s most turbulent time of 1745.
It is with great pride and pleasure that Sass3 shares a unique interview with Morayo and Moyo Akande, the writer and actresses of the film 1745. We are proud to feature their story as we discuss their inspiration for this project, the importance of reflecting on
this invisible piece of Scotland’s historical past, and how this film challenges all of what we understood about this time period. Come travel with us to the past as we explore the true realities that surrounded this significant year, while also sharing Morayo and Moyo Akande’s journey to acknowledge this important yet unknown piece of history.

We find complete enjoyment in following the images and information shared through social media of the filming process of Season 3. The anticipation of the upcoming season is often hard to bare, so we find ourselves searching for ways to sustain our wee addiction to all things Outlander. We have been successful so far, as we have purchased new items to express our love for this series through Etsy, AbbyShot, as well as Redbubble. In our attempts to expand our repertoire of distractions while we await for the highly anticipated release of Voyager, we have joined various art groups and have even started developing our own crafting skills to bring other unique pieces of decor into our homes. We certainly find points of inspiration in all forms. In this case, we were inspired by one of Claire’s Parisian costumes that was on display at the Paley Center during the “Artistry of Outlander” exhibition.

Scott Kyle – a man of many talents: actor, artistic director, venue manager, commercial producer, teacher. He has played roles in several movies, has organized special events and works with today’s youth in order to build their artistic future. He is so much more than we had imagined!
Scott became known to the Outlander world as Ross Owen, Lallybroch’s blacksmith in Season Two, Dragonfly in Amber. He has taken time to converse with us, Timeless Sass3nach Journeys. In our interview, we found that there is so much more to Scott Kyle than meets the eye. It is through his endearing portrayal of Ross that we became admirers of Scott. In this role, it is his character’s stirring interaction with Kincaid, played by Scottish actor Gregor Firth that drew our attention to Scott. In the episode they made a pact: if one met his demise, the other would care for his wife and children. It was a touching scene, but we don’t want to give away more. Due to his wonderful depiction of the blacksmith highlander, Scott’s fanbase began to grow. We also grew to love him because he graciously interacts with his fans on social media on a regular basis, taking the time to respond somehow to those who absolutely adore him. This commitment to fans hasn’t gone unnoticed. Scott is someone who would be a truly dedicated friend, much like his character, Ross.
In our interview, we were able to learn about Scott’s beginnings and his devotional work at a restored and revived theater in Scotland. It was a pleasure to get to know him and share his story.

Sass3 has formed a strong attachment to everything that Outlander embodies: historical fiction, spirituality, honor, morality, love, and even components of superstition. If you are an avid fan like we are, we are sure you can easily recall your favorite episodes that have created a stronger bond to this series. There are certainly scenes that we will always cherish, leading us to re-watch our favorite moments of each season. However, we also love to look back on the episodes that foreshadowed Claire’s future. In particular, the moment when Claire Randall had her tea leaves read by the charming housekeeper, Mrs. Graham. It was clear during their conversation that hints to her future were being foretold, and Claire would soon embark on a timeless journey that would capture each of our hearts.
The manner in which Mrs. Graham used this fortune-telling method of interpreting patterns in tea leaves was mysterious. Although, in reality it’s use has been well documented throughout history and across many different cultures. The bigger question we asked ourselves is this: Can a level of truth be drawn from this form of fortune-telling? Only those who had this experience will know. Fortunate for us, one of our own was able to partake in this rare form of reading to gain insight into her future by the intuitive interpretation of the leaves found in her tea cup. This was an incredible opportunity that we can not wait to share. Here is Jae’s story. Continue reading Remembrance of Outlander Season 1: The Enchantment of Tea Leaf Readings

In this article, we share decorating ideas that perhaps she could have had at her parties and that one could also use for today’s celebrations. Sass3 has hosted and attended a wide array of parties, so we have gathered quite a few suggestions.
