We get excited when we gather with our Outlander Clan, and we know you can relate! Anytime Sass3 has the opportunity to be with like-minded people, we drop everything and go (after making sure we get our families secured, of course!). In today’s blog, we share the premiere viewing party we attended that was held in San Diego, California.
Eager to see the new episode of Voyager, “The Battle Joined,” the three of us jumped into a crowded van and headed to La Mesa Wine Works for the festivities planned for the evening. With five other lassies, we made our way to a very cute wine tasting room which offered wine from two local wineries: San Pasqual Winery and Wyatt Oaks Winery.
The Venue: La Mesa Wine Works
The private Voyager event was held at La Mesa Wine Works, located at 8167 Center St, La Mesa, CA 91942. Its industrial-style tasting room can be found right off freeway 8. On-site parking is available immediately outside the venue with some street parking nearby. We arrived a bit early so we didn’t have any trouble finding a spot.
One of the advantages of living in San Diego is its beautiful sunny days, and we are aware of our luck for calling this city our home. Naturally, an outdoor seating area, like the one photographed above, is perfect for any meet-up. Outlander patrons had the opportunity to enjoy the afternoon right before the sun went down. We had the option of relaxing here before the show began.
The tasting room offers “Flight of any 3” for $12. For that price, customers may choose 3 wines from the same column. Because of the warm summer afternoon, we were automatically drawn to the SummerVine Passionfruit Wines (the name alone is inviting!). The chilled Roselle, light on the tongue and sweet on the palette, called to us. Quenching our thirst, it was the ideal drink for Sass3 to start the evening.
We sampled the “Flight of any 3” from San Pascual Winery. The lighter and sweet wines were our choices: (from left to right) Malbec, Tannat, and Passionfruit Roselle. Our second set included Wyatt flight of Syrah, Agrifolia, and Carignane. The favorite of the night was Malbec Tannat!
The Voyager Premiere
- The Lovely Organizers
Three lovely San Diego sassenachs hosted this event. Susie, Maria, and Peggy organized a fun and casual meet-up where we were able to catch up with old friends and get acquainted with new Outlander members to the SD crew. Here, Susie (left) welcomed everyone, followed with introductions from the guests.
- The Potluck
A potluck filled this table with a variety of food: vegan, quiche, wraps, salads, various entrees, cheese and crackers, and desserts. There was more than enough for seconds and thirds.
- The Swag
These Voyager tiles were created by Susie and Maria. The fine details of the give-aways made these keepsakes a treasure. Hopefully, you also spied the mementos Sass3 made! The tall ship mini project is extremely simple to assemble and inexpensive too. Click here for our previous blog for this DIY souvenir.
- Another Treat: A Kilt
The Spirit of Outlander will always include a Scotsman in a kilt, and this gentleman was very proud to wear his clan tartan.
- Watching “The Battle Joined”
First, we watched the last episode of Season 2. There was so much chatter and socializing during this finale; however, once Season 3 began, it was silent. All were enthralled with Episode 1 of Voyager as the wait was finally over! If you would like to read about our reactions to “The Battle Joined,” click here.
- The San Diego Clan
Here we are with Giant Jamie as we ended our entertaining evening. Together, we told stories and discussed all things Outlander: Ronald D. Moore, Sam Heughan, Catiriona Balfe, Tobias Menzies, Richard Rankin, Sophia Skelton, Diana Gabaldon, the book series, and much, much more. There’s no other book or TV series that we can say has generated long lasting bonds like this one. With smiles on our faces and joy in our hearts, we hope your premiere viewing party was as special as ours. Cheers!
How did your premiere viewing go? We would love to hear all about it.
