“When I asked my Da how ye knew which was the right woman, he told me when the time came, I’d have no doubt. And I didn’t.”

Jamie Fraser

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 27

Claire and Jamie may have missed 20 wedding anniversaries together, but I bet if they lived near an establishment similar to Ruth’s Chris Steak House, they would definitely celebrate there. In today’s blog, I celebrate 22 years of marriage with my husband, sharing our traditional anniversary outing. Just like Jamie and Claire, my hubby and I are soul mates!

In Outlander, Claire traveled through time, and Murtagh escorted her to the cabin where she first saw Jamie. In my personal story, my mother took me across the street to meet the family that had just traveled across the country. For Jamie, it was love at first sight…for me as well.

Here’s one Sass3nach’s night out with her Jamie.

Our first dining experience at Ruth’s Chris Steak House was on our honeymoon in Cancun, Mexico. We loved it so much, we decided this would be our traditional anniversary restaurant.

Special occasion decor at the table.

Each year, the staff takes care of us well. They have presented us with confetti strewn about our table, anniversary cards, rose petals scattered on the tablecloth, complimentary Happy Anniversary dessert, and even a personalized menu!

Personalized menu.

As for the food, we have never been disappointed. Their steaks are seasoned and seared then served with parsley and sizzling butter on 500 degree plates. You can also request toppings, such as blue cheese crumbles, on your steak.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House serves more than just steak, however. They also offer pork and lamb chops, seafood, appetizers, sides, soups, salads, desserts, cocktails, wine, and beer.

Savoring time with my Jamie.

Be aware that the menu items are a la carte. This allows you and your date to custom-create your meal. The sides are large enough to share between two people. My husband orders one side and I get another, and we split them. The salads are a good sharing size as well. Desserts can definitely be shared.

The various anniversary desserts they have served us over the years.

I highly recommend their sweet potato casserole, potatoes au gratin, grilled asparagus, and Ruth’s Chop Salad. My Jamie isn’t much into veggies, but these he’ll eat!

He shared the Highlanders’ innate suspicion of fresh fruit and vegetables, though his great appetite made him willing to eat almost anything in extremity.

Since the food is ordered a la carte, it does add up – but it is well worth the cost! Steak prices can range from $24-$52; seafood $21 – $34; sides $7.50 – $9.00. If you’re on a budget, think about splitting just one appetizer and fore-go the cocktails. They have different size cuts of meat, so you could opt for the smaller cut to save a bit of money.

Breathtaking view from our table.

Our local Ruth’s Chris has a wonderful view of the harbor. They have large windows, so most tables can have a view. We make our reservations, which you can do on-line, so that we’ll be there during sunset.

If you have a special occasion to celebrate, Ruth’s Chris Steak House is a delicious option. You’ll be treated fine, fed well, and you’ll have quality time with your loved ones.

As our evening ended, we walked hand-in-hand reminiscing about our years together, and I was reminded of this passage:

“Ye werna the first lass I kissed, ” he said softly. “But I swear you’ll be the last.” And he bent his head to my upturned face.

Then I turned my face up to my Jamie’s.
