Dawn Chandler illustrates the magic of being a performer. She is able to interpret and tell a story that invites an emotional connection to her viewers, allowing them to truly feel part of the narrative being told. From theatre to television, she has begun to place her artistic mark with each performance credit. Her dedication to her craft is also portrayed in her desire to continue expanding her levels of presentation by going beyond each roles initial expectations. To watch her authentically interpret each character she embodies is always enjoyable to witness. However, we also believe one of her biggest merits lies in her genuine personality that she displays outside of her work as an actress. Her heartfelt messages to fans and our ease of conversation during this interview made us realize how grounded and humble she truly is – and we would love nothing more than to be able to sit down and enjoy a drink with her one day. It is with great pleasure that Sass3 presents the talented Dawn Chandler. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to communicate with her after the completion of Season 2 finale of Outlander.
“She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water. She belongs to no man and to no city. She knows nothing of borders and invents her own rules and customs. ‘Time’ for her isn’t something to fight against. Her life flows clean, with passion, like fresh water.”
― Roman Payne
When we read this quote, our minds immediately thought of Claire Fraser. Although a fictional character, she is brought to life by the level of emotional depth that rivals reality. It is rare to feel that level of connection. The ability to directly identify to the emotions experienced during moments of success or life’s trials is perhaps what cements the bond to the Outlander series. That is the true power of this series – the story becomes personal. We can relate to each character in some form and become emotionally vested. In our case, it led to re-reading the series again to recapture details that we may have missed and relive the joy of following this timeless story. Voyager will bring trials, adventures, and affirm relationships. A new beginning that can only take place with the introduction of new characters.
New casting only adds to our enthusiasm, making our anticipation for Season 3 even stronger! In this blog we will explore the newest roles being brought to life this season, our interpretation of their character descriptions based on the book series, and most of all, what we look forward to in the future. Perhaps, you may even be interested in the trivia at the end of the blog to test your own Outlander knowledge. ♥
Before reading on, please be aware: new characters are being discussed, so if you don’t want any chance of spoilers, heed with caution….
Temptation not only for him, but for me. For him, the chance to be what he was made for by nature, what fate had denied him. He was born and bred to this: the stewardship of a large estate, the care of the people on it, a place of respect among men of substance, his peers. More importantly, the restoration of clan and family.
Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 13
Jamie Fraser is one of the greatest literary characters. Diana Gabaldon has seamlessly created and developed him to be complete with a high sense of integrity, honor, ingenuity, and leadership that sets him apart from all the other characters. Yet, he also shares the same hopes, fears and even mannerisms that can be subjectively related to each and every one of us. This ability to present the character of Jamie Fraser with depth and human appeal is what allows us to clearly identify and feel as though there is a real personal connection to him. For all of us, it feels like this bond has grown stronger with each book in the series and also from watching the award nominating performances of Sam Heughan, who portrays Jamie Fraser.
In this blog we wanted to send our sincere appreciation for all that Sam Heughan does on and behind the Outlander series. From charitable endeavors to supporting social change, he has put his stardom to great use. In addition, his portrayal of Jamie Frasier continues to capture his audience and take command of the screen. To avid fans there is simply nothing better. We know his relentless work ethic will lead him on a path of continued success and no one deserves it more. Continue reading Sass3nach’s Appreciation for Sam Heughan’s Portrayal of Jamie Fraser
Outlander. It is a book and television series that is cherished by fans from across the world. It is common to see friendships develop through the shared emotional bond to the Outlander series created by Diana Gabaldon. Her seamless ability to incorporate history, spirituality, and timeless journeys for the soul tend to draw fans not only closer to the beloved characters but also to one another. With the continuous growth of the fandom it is empowering to see that Outlander has also become the catalyst for global change. The transformation of friendship, initially formed over the love of this series, has grown to become a community that supports making a true difference by assisting a variety of non-profit organizations.
From fundraising for donations, raising awareness of important societal causes, to even volunteering – it is admirable to see so many people come together for the greater purpose of helping others. This is the true power of the Outlander Fandom. Now we are rallying for the entire clan to help another noble cause. Can you help answer that call?
ECCC, Emerald City Comicon, was held the weekend of March 2-6 in Seattle, Washington. Sass3 was fortunate enough to attend. Once we discovered Caitriona and Sam would be in attendance, we quickly acted on the opportunity to buy tickets for this comicon. We then seized the moment to purchase the single and group photos to make our dreams come true to meet them!
I think we can all agree that there is one scene in Outlander Season 3 that we are all looking forward to seeing: the reunion of Jamie and Claire after 20 years of separation. This memorable scene takes place in Voyager, the third book of the Outlander series. Many fans remember this moment by the finest of details, as the emotions of pain, loss, hope, love, and devotion could be felt in the beautiful imagery and narrative written by Diana Gabaldon. Without question, we hope to see this reunion faithfully lifted from the book to the screen. We could not have been happier when it was announced that Matthew B. Roberts was going to be working on this specific episode!
The Outlander fandom is powerful. It brings people together, who without the book or television series, may have never have met. Outlander is a medium to form friendships, share experiences, and most of all build comradery through our love for the book and television series. There is no doubt that Outlander fans are passionate. However, when you combine passion and purpose, it can generate change that expands well beyond any border. There is no better example of the level of impact one group can have, in and beyond their community, than the Southern Sassenachs. Driven to create a positive impact in the lives of others, they have come together to support the charities of Bloodwise and World Child Cancer – successfully raising money for each of these organizations. It is with great pride and pleasure that Sass3 share their story: from their early beginning of coming together to share their enjoyment of the Outlander series, creating a strong sense of community within their group, to ultimately transforming their passion for a greater purpose.
It’s every Outlander fan’s dream to see and meet the cast of the show. When Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser, was nominated for a Golden Globe, fans flocked to Beverly Hills Hilton to get a glimpse of the stunning actress. We were able to talk to one lucky fan, who was chosen from a drawing by Outlander SoCal Edition, to experience what it’s like to be one of those cheering fans sitting at the bleachers.
Who motivates you? I find myself constantly inspired by many people around me, as well as the creative minds behind the authenticity of Outlander itself. From costumes to set design, I continue to be amazed by their innovation, drive for their craft, and their willingness to share their vision and inspiration of specific pieces with fans.
Watching the process from afar has been a pleasant journey. However, when I had the opportunity to meet someone I greatly admire, I was filled with excitement that was beyond words. Needless to say, I struggled to maintain my composure during a brief conversation with one person who absolutely moves me: the beautiful and talented Terry Dresbach.
