Last weekend a series of Outlander events took place in Vancouver, Canada where fans assembled to meet the honorable character Lord John Grey, played by David Berry, and the lively Gaelic specialist, Àdhamh Ó Broin. The intimate gathering was organized by Koko Pipkin, founder of Outlandish Vancouver, and her team. The three days included a list of activities where Outlander participants had the opportunity to interact with the TV star and language consultant. The Outlander function, which also coincided with the Surrey International Writer’s Conference where Diana Gabaldon presented, began October 19th and ended on the 21st.
The festivities of Outlandish Vancouver brought in people from Canada and the United States, providing a variety of options to choose: meet-and-greets, autograph sessions, panels, and hotel suite parties with David and Àdhamh. This extremely unique opportunity delivered the ultimate fan experience because of its small setting. It was, in my opinion, one of the most cherished Outlander affairs I have ever attended – I’m still on cloud nine!
Today, I would like to share with you what this group had to offer. Read on to see the timeline of sessions that guests were able to attend and a short description of each. I hope you have a chance to go to one of these functions in the future because my experience with David and Àdhamh was priceless.

We get excited when we gather with our Outlander Clan, and we know you can relate! Anytime Sass3 has the opportunity to be with like-minded people, we drop everything and go (after making sure we get our families secured, of course!). In today’s blog, we share the premiere viewing party we attended that was held in San Diego, California.
Eager to see the new episode of Voyager, “The Battle Joined,” the three of us jumped into a crowded van and headed to La Mesa Wine Works for the festivities planned for the evening. With five other lassies, we made our way to a very cute wine tasting room which offered wine from two local wineries: San Pasqual Winery and Wyatt Oaks Winery. Fraser’s Ridge, a location any faithful Outlander book fan would easily recognize. With its lush mountains and thick wilderness, it’s a place Jamie and Claire will call their home while in America. Closing our eyes, we imagine what it may have been like actually living in such a secluded setting where they lived off the land. So much was developed there: relationships, family, community, and a life. Besides Scotland, it is one of our favorite spots – it is special.
In the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, lies a small historic town called Blowing Rock and another named Boone. Nestled between these two towns, a very unique experience is created by a remarkable company, Novel Adventures, allowing participants to travel similar paths as our favorite Outlandish characters. On July 5 – 8, the “Gathering on the Ridge” event took place at The Mast Farm Inn where about 50 people met to enjoy four days of “Fraser” living. The highlight of the occasion was the attendance of Cesar Domboy, Outlander‘s Fergus Fraser. One of our very own, Mela, was fortunate to take part in the culminating function, dinner with Cesar. In this blog, Sass3 shares her experience of that magical evening.

Travel is a means for many of us to expand our perspective and our understanding of the world that surrounds us. These long-lasting benefits can also be found in reading. It can allow us to form new outlooks on life, inspire the acquisition of knowledge, introduce ourselves to new places of discovery, and even have the power of transforming our lives for the better. Each of these values are typically most inspired when reading novels that allow us to transport ourselves, often without knowing, into the character’s journey, voice, and soul. It is then not uncommon for increased personal investment to occur, as we willingly search for opportunities to escape into the fictional world that our favorite authors present to us. Many series have this power – such as Harry Potter, Twilight, Gone with the Wind, Poldark, Lord of the Rings, and in our case, Outlander.

Finding time to gather with friends is always enjoyable, but when you add the ambiance of a true British tea house, it’s an absolute pleasure!

It’s every Outlander book fan’s dream to meet Herself, Diana Gabaldon; however, it’s paramount when you come face to face, let alone interact, with the stars who play your all-time favorite characters. One lucky lass to do just that is our fellow Outlander sister, Brenda, who experienced this at a VIP event at Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon. I met with Brenda for coffee as she contenly shared her adventure. I was more than happy to not only catch up with my friend, but also to hear about her epic journey. In today’s blog, we’ll hear about this Sassenach’s escapade meeting the infamous Jamie and Claire.

April 6 is the official U.S. date of National Tartan Day – a day to celebrate the Scottish Declaration of Independence and the achievements of those of Scottish descent. House of Scotland in San Diego’s Balboa Park hosted their annual Tartan Day celebration on Saturday, April 1. A group of Outlander San Diego Edition lassies met up to enjoy the day.
We were looking forward to not only each other’s company, but the sound of bagpipes, the taste of Scottish vittles, and, of course, men in kilts!
