Craigh na Dun is the enchanted, ancient ring of stones created by Diana Gabaldon to provide the portal through which Claire Randall time travels from 1945 to 1743.
One sure sign that you are addicted to Outlander is that you feel the need to touch any and all standing stones you come across. We had never noticed how many boulders and large rocks are used decoratively in yards, public areas such as malls and in front of restaurants, or even just along the roadway, until we witnessed Claire go through the stones at Craigh na Dun.
Images of Claire at the hilltop, hearing the buzz of the stones, immediately come to mind whenever I find a circle of rocks or any naturally formed ring of plants, hedges, or any piece of flora. While on hikes, it has become a pastime to stage photos of my Funko Pop! Jamie and Claire figures near flowers or stones. I decided it was time to have my very own Craigh na Dun and share this easy do-it-yourself project with you.

There are many characters in the Outlander series that immediately grab one’s attention. Diana Gabaldon has shared her writing process on several panels we have attended. We are always fascinated to hear her speak of her own manner in developing the nature and disposition of each individual within the series. She is able to follow her own instincts to masterfully bring the essence of each character to life. We admire her ability to draw from her own memories, use her imagination to create vivid context, and utilize true components of history to form her timelines. The results of her writing are unlike any other author we have experienced. As readers, it is easy to immerse ourselves in this fictional world and quickly form an emotional connection to the characters she introduces. Yet, as we follow their journey of adventure, success, hardships, and facing unfathomable barriers – each are capable of surprising us in the most unexpected ways.
There are a several roles within the series that endure surprising transformations through dramatic shifts in the storyline over the course of the books. A few that immediately come to mind include Young Ian Fraser Murray and Fergus Fraser. However, it is Brianna Randall Fraser and Roger Wakefield MacKenzie’s journey that comes to the forefront when we think of characters who will soon embark on a remarkable journey. Everyone loves characters they can root for, and these two will certainly not disappoint. Leaving fans who have read the books to hold their breath, we not only foresee the events in their future, but also look forward to seeing the progression of this dynamic relationship on screen.
Seeing Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton at San Diego Comic-Con was an incredible experience, and we can certainly attest that their chemistry is a perfect match for what lies ahead for their characters! In our excitement for the new season, Sass3 couldn’t wait to celebrate these immensely talented actors and our top reasons why we admire this literary couple. Sass3 has formed a strong attachment to everything that Outlander embodies: historical fiction, spirituality, honor, morality, love, and even components of superstition. If you are an avid fan like we are, we are sure you can easily recall your favorite episodes that have created a stronger bond to this series. There are certainly scenes that we will always cherish, leading us to re-watch our favorite moments of each season. However, we also love to look back on the episodes that foreshadowed Claire’s future. In particular, the moment when Claire Randall had her tea leaves read by the charming housekeeper, Mrs. Graham. It was clear during their conversation that hints to her future were being foretold, and Claire would soon embark on a timeless journey that would capture each of our hearts.
The manner in which Mrs. Graham used this fortune-telling method of interpreting patterns in tea leaves was mysterious. Although, in reality it’s use has been well documented throughout history and across many different cultures. The bigger question we asked ourselves is this: Can a level of truth be drawn from this form of fortune-telling? Only those who had this experience will know. Fortunate for us, one of our own was able to partake in this rare form of reading to gain insight into her future by the intuitive interpretation of the leaves found in her tea cup. This was an incredible opportunity that we can not wait to share. Here is Jae’s story. Continue reading Remembrance of Outlander Season 1: The Enchantment of Tea Leaf Readings
