OakOasis Preserve: An Outlander MPC Nature Walk

San Diego is known for its friendly people and great weather. There’s sunshine all year long, even during the “winter” months. When you add hiking trails to the mix, it is an ideal place for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

With the growth of Sam Heughan’s popularity, many Outlander fans are inspired by his healthy and active lifestyle. His My Peak Challenge has motivated people to get in shape, following his diet and workout plan. Those who participate in Sam’s MPC also mimic his love for nature while exercising. In today’s blog, we at Timeless Sass3nach Journeys honor Mr. Heughan’s program by sharing a trail walk we completed at the OakOasis Preserve.

Sass3nach’s Appreciation for Sam Heughan’s Portrayal of Jamie Fraser

Temptation not only for him, but for me.  For him, the chance to be what he was made for by nature, what fate had denied him.  He was born and bred to this: the stewardship of a large estate, the care of the people on it, a place of respect among men of substance, his peers. More importantly, the restoration of clan and family.

Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon, Chapter 13

Jamie Fraser is one of the greatest literary characters. Diana Gabaldon has seamlessly created and developed him to be complete with a high sense of integrity, honor, ingenuity, and leadership that sets him apart from all the other characters.  Yet, he also shares the same hopes, fears and even mannerisms that can be subjectively related to each and every one of us.  This ability to present the character of Jamie Fraser with depth and human appeal is what allows us to clearly identify and feel as though there is a real personal connection to him.  For all of us, it feels like this bond has grown stronger with each book in the series and also from watching the award nominating performances of Sam Heughan, who portrays Jamie Fraser.

In this blog we wanted to send our sincere appreciation for all that Sam Heughan does on and behind the Outlander series.  From charitable endeavors to supporting social change, he has put his stardom to great use.  In addition, his portrayal of Jamie Frasier continues to capture his audience and take command of the screen.  To avid fans there is simply nothing better.  We know his relentless work ethic will lead him on a path of continued success and no one deserves it more.   Continue reading Sass3nach’s Appreciation for Sam Heughan’s Portrayal of Jamie Fraser

The Peak Posse SoCal MPC 5K Brunch

Keeping fit is a goal so many of us have. When you combine Sam Heughan’s My Peak Challenge (MPC) with The Peak Posse SoCal friends, it is just down-right delightful – not to mention fun!

Some members of The Peak Posse SoCal (a division of The Peak Posse which is world-wide) gathered together for a 5K and brunch event in Southern California. Of course, Sass3 joined in on the opportunity to participate.

My Peak Challenge: A Hike to Rock House

It was a beautiful day for a hike!  After all the rain in San Diego, the sun finally came out and so did we. Seven families gathered on January 29, 2017 to hike a nearby trail known as Rock House.  As you have read from our earlier My Peak Challenge blogs, our interest in getting fit, spending time in nature, and bonding with friends and family have become important pastimes.  Although most people on this hike are not Outlander fanatics like us, Sass3, the goal was still the same: exercise and spend time with loved ones. Escape to the Scottish Highlands through Art and Photography

Sass3 has always felt that Outlander is more than just a book or television series.  This epic love story resonates within our soul, always leaving us with a desire for more.  We love that it has led to new friendships, adventures, and, most of all, the shared dream of traveling to Jamie’s Scottish Highlands.

Favorite Moments Of 2016

As we close 2016, we decided to take a moment to appreciate the positive experiences this year has offered us.  As three professional women, with families, we balance work, busy schedules, and taking time to go out and experience all that the Outlander fandom has to offer.  We have loved our time going to Outlander events, as there is no better way to get through Droughtlander than being with others who have your same addiction.  Sharing our adventures in all things Outlander was our motivation to start this blog.  We have enjoyed having a place to talk about our love for the books, author, show, cast, and crew.   As we begin the festivities to celebrate the new year, we wanted to take time to reflect on our favorite memories of 2016.  Come take a look at some of our favorite moments!

J&C Hike Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve

Our Jamie and Claire Funko Pop! figures tend to go a lot of places with us, particularly on our My Peak Challenge (MPC) hikes.

On this serene day, which happened to be Sam Heughan‘s birthday,  a group of “Peakers” decided to hike to the waterfall at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. This oasis is centrally located to the 5, 805 and 15 freeways right near Mira Mesa, California.

Creating Your Own Modern Outlandish Wear

The gown was two years out of fashion by cosmopolitan standards of Jamaica, but it was clean, which was the main thing so far as I was concerned.

The gown itself was not at all bad, it was of cream silk, half sleeved and very simple, but with panniers of wine-striped silk over the hips, and a ruching of claret-colored silk piping that ran in two rows from waist to bosom.  With the Brussels lace I had purchased sewn around the sleeves, I though it would do, even if the cloth was not quite the first quality.

“I’m glad you picked that one.” I said, touching the stone gently.  It was warm from his body.  “Goes much better with the dress than the sapphire or the emerald would.”

Jamie had finally taken time to notice the rest of my costume.  His eye traveled slowly over me from head to hem, and a smile spread across his face.

“Ye make a verra ornamental jewel box, Sassenach,” he said.  “A fine distraction, aye?”

Diana Gabaldon, Drums of Autumn. Chapter 6, pages 101 – 104.

I love fashion.  I often look at web sites of my favorite clothing stores to look for inspiration on looks and sewing ideas.  Lately, I have found myself often turning to Anthropologie and Pinterest for my newest ideas.  Unfortunately, my tastes do not often meet my budget.  So when I can, I try and make pieces myself.  There  is nothing better that adding new life to something that I already own or even upscaling a piece of clothing that was once considered out of style. Just as Claire’s gown in Drums of Autumn.  ♥

Sweetwater Regional Park and Nature Trails

Bonita, California is a small town in San Diego nestled between National City and Chula Vista.  It is only a 10 minute drive from my home and is the hometown of my fellow Sass3, Lady K.  Bonita is known for having the Sweetwater River flowing through it.  There lays a golf course and park where many, like myself, exercise and enjoy the outdoors.  People on horse back can also be seen riding. I have lived in the area for over 30 years, but was not aware of nature trails nearby.  Finding these walking paths was a treat!

Outlander Bonita Hike, My Peak Challenge

In this blog I will share directions to the park,  trail highlights, and breakfast recommendations.  At the end, make sure you click on our Flickr link to view all the photos from this day.
